Out of all the eco-friendly beauty products there are, lip balm is the easiest to find. There are so many different brands, and if none of them peak your fancy you can just as easily make your own. I decided to highlight two today, because they are both fantastic and I could not choose between the two. EOS, for evolution of smooth, and Mongo Kiss are natural or organic lip balms.
Now I must admit EOS does confess that they are only 99% natural, but they work so well and their price tag is lower than one of a 100% natural lip balm so I thought they deserved a chance. I believe the one percent actually comes from the container the lip balm is stored in, a cute little ball shape, which you can actually reuse for your own lip balm or lipstick. It contains natural oils which allow it to be incredibly conditioning for your lips. It also has Shea butter and vitamins C and E for instantly softer lips. Coconut milk is used to make your lips soft, as well, and to give it a delicious smell/taste. It comes in many different flavors though, like vanilla mint, blueberry Acai, or lemon drop. Even better, it is petroleum free, paraben free, gluten free, and phthalate free. EOS comes in a handy quarter oz. size, which goes a shockingly far. For only a couple bucks this is certainly one of my favorite lip balms.
Mongo Kiss lip balms are made of all certified organic ingredients. They use Fair Trade Certified cocoa butter and mix in Mongongo oil. Mongongo oil is a nutrient rich oil high in vitamin E as well as other nutrients that is found in Africa. It naturally attracts and retains moisture, which, combined with other essential oils high in fatty acids that allow your skin to repair damage, your lips feel immediate relief and moisture. They also use organic extracts like pomegranate and peppermint, as well as organic honey and vanilla, to get delicious flavors/scents.
As I said before, there are so many types of organic lip balms, some more organic than others. You can find all different types at www.ecolips.com. They have every type of organic lip balm on there (or at least the ones without their own websites), and you can purchase them through there, as well. If the whole DIY scape is more your thing, there are tons of ways to make your own organic lip balm. And as I said earlier, if you save your EOS lip balm containers you can reuse them for your own lip balm.
